COPPER RIVER STORIES

Together with our partners – Friends of Kennicott, Wrangell Mountains Center -- the CRWP will help produce a series of interpretive projects that tell the many stories of the Copper River – its characters, its climate and wildlife that make their home here, and its history of Native families and their fish camps, mining, railroads, and mountains.

By telling the stories that make this river corridor special, we can help guide tourism growth. Other goals include preserving and articulating stories of place-based communities, expanding appropriate economic opportunities for residents, and celebrating and empowering local communities.

STRATEGIES

  • Engage local people in telling their stories about place.
  • Illuminate connections between people and place through interpretive activities, displays, etc.
  • Research, collect and publicize stories about historical and contemporary place-based lifestyles.

Do you know someone who has lived a great story along the Copper? Do you have a special place or fascination with the river’s flora, fauna or geology?

Tell us your story!

So far we’re talking about ideas for talking circles, curricula for schools, road-side interpretive displays, and publications. Do you have an idea we should include? Please let us know.
