The Wilderness Act of 1964: The purpose of this act was to establish a National Wilderness Preservation System in order to assure that an increasing population, accompanied by expanding settlement and growing mechanization, would not occupy and modify all areas within the United States and its possessions, leaving no lands designated for preservation and protection in their natural condition, The Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act of 1980: This Act declared eight million seven hundred thousand acres of the Wrangell-St. Elias as wilderness within a national park.
